In 1871, A fire at the home of William L. Rogers prompted Corpus Christi Citizens to organize a volunteer fire department. The current citizen manned bucket brigade was not enough. The pressing need for an established fire response led to fundraising, along with assistance by city officials to obtain updated equipment. Corpus Christi would get its first pumping apparatus from the city of New Orleans. Thus, the first Corpus Christi Fire Station was born.
